Gather ingredients: 680 g ground beef, 40 g Kansas City Sweet and Smoky Rub, 30 ml olive oil, 4 romaine lettuce leaves, 4 onion rolls, 8 strips bacon, 120 ml barbecue sauce, 1 tomato. Tools: grill, grill brush, oil brush, instant-read thermometer, knife, cutting board.

Shape ground beef into 4 patties (9 cm diameter, 2 cm thick) with a center depression. Season both sides with rub. Refrigerate.

Preheat grill to high (230-260 Celsius) for direct grilling. Brush and oil the grate. Slice the tomato and halve the rolls.

Brush lettuce leaves and insides of onion rolls with olive oil.

Grill bacon strips until browned, approximately 4 minutes per side.

Grill hamburgers until they reach 71 Celsius, approximately 4 minutes per side.

Grill lettuce leaves for 30 seconds per side and toast onion rolls cut-side down for 90 seconds.

Layer bottom roll with lettuce, patty, barbecue sauce, tomato slice, 2 bacon strips, and more sauce. Top with roll half.
